Avon and Somerset Police has retracted the complaint it made to Ofcom over ITV News’ coverage of the Joanna Yeates murder investigation.
The force barred ITV News journalists from its press conferences last week and reported ITN – which produces ITV’s national news programmes – to the broadcast regulator for a “naive and irresponsible” report broadcast on Wednesday evening.
ITN accused the police of censorship as David Mannion, its editor-in-chief, told the BBC Radio Media Show that the agency stood by its story.
News crews from ITV’s national news service were allowed back into press conferences after the police decided that subsequent reports had been fair and balanced.
A joint statement from ITN and Avon and Somerset Police late on Friday confirmed that the two organisations had resolved their differences and that no further action would be taken.
