Police believe phone of 7/7 bombing victim was targeted by News of the World

By Dominic wireposts

The News of the World may have hacked the phone of a victim of the 7/7 terrorist attacks on London in 2005, the Guardian has revealed.

In what could be the most damaging development in the story since it emerged that Milly Dowler’s phone may have been targeted in 2002, The Guardian reports that Sheila Henry – the mother of 7/7 victim Christian Small – is to sue the News of the World.

According to The Guardian, she has been advised by police that her son’s phone may have been targeted by News of the World investigator Glenn Mulcaire after his death in the explosion on a Piccadilly Line tube train.

More phone-hacking claimants are emerging week by week has Scotland Yard’s operation Weeting team sifts through 11,000 pages of evidence seized from Mulcaire. The Weeting team has said that there as many 4,000 phone-hacking victims so hundreds more high-profile litigants are set to emerge in the months and years to come.

Meanwhile The Independent today has more on  Mulcaire’s ongoing relationship with News International.

Although News International has now stopped paying Mulcaire’s legal fees in the many ongoing phone-hack privacy actions he is facing, it will pay damages claims on his behalf – court documents seen by the Indy reveal.
