Someone called Madi Solomon, Pearson’s “director of global content standards”, has told PaidContent that the Financial Times (which Pearson owns) sees a “five year trajectory for having exited print in substantial part”.
‘They’re not saying that, by five years, they’ll completely stop it, but they do see that the sunset is going to be in about five years for them.”
Its a sobering thought but ultimately a pretty pointless one. No-one could have predicted how bad the last five years were going to be for print, but equally – it is impossible to predict how the next five will turn out.
Update: The FT are now saying this is cobblers, as I suspected, saying: “We’ve got no plans to scale back print operations.” Full statement on Paidcontent.
