The Press Complaints Commission today received more than 900 complaints over an article in the Daily Mail asking questions about singer Stephen Gately’s death.
Journalist Jan Moir today claimed her article was the subject of an orchestrated online campaign.
Clause five of the Editors’ Code of Practice deals with intrusion into grief or shock.
It states: “In cases involving personal grief or shock, enquiries and approaches must be made with sympathy and discretion and publication handled sensitively.”
11am Monday update: The Moir article has now attracted more than 21,000 complaints to the PCC, making it by far the most complained about article in the history of the PCC.
