Patrick Swayze condemns ‘shoddy’ reporting of illness

By PA Mediapoint

Actor Patrick Swayze has expressed his anger about a series of ‘shoddy and reckless’ American newspaper reports that say he does not have long to live.

Swayze, who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer earlier this year, issued a statement today in which he accused journalists of “emotional cruelty” in their coverage of his fight against the disease.

The Dirty Dancing star, who is 56, issued the media statement after the National Enquirer magazine reported that his cancer had spread to his liver.

One US tabloid, The Globe, also ran a front-page story with the headline: “Swayze Deathbed Secret”.

The actor said today: “Tabloids have been consistently reporting lies and false information about me and those close to me.

“They’re reporting that I’m on my last legs and saying goodbye to my tearful family.”

Swayze added: “It’s upsetting that the shoddy and reckless reporting from these publications cast a negative shadow on the positive and good fight I’m fighting.”
