Pakistani regulator to stop vetting BBC news bulletins

By paulmcnally

Staff at the BBC World Service have written to the BBC Trust to complain after they discovered that the broadcaster had agreed to have its news broadcasts vetted by the Pakistani government.

According to the Guardian, the BBC will today resume broadcasting unvetted news bulletins in Pakistan.

Under the previous system, which has been in placed since 2006, news scripts and running orders were posted to a secure website, and the Pakistani government was allowed to listen to BBC Urdu news bulletins 15 minutes before they were broadcast, the paper claims.
