Northcliffe regionals report record web traffic

By Martin Stabe wirepost

Northcliffe Media’s 50 “thisis” regional newspaper web sites have 56 per cent year-on-year growth in 2.74 milllion unique visitors in January.

Visits also up 56 per cent to 7.67 million and pageviews were up 43 per cent to 51 million, the company said in a statement.

Earlier this week, a trading statement by Northcliffe’s parent company Daily Mail and General Trust revealed that in the last three months of 2007, the regional group’s digital revenues had nearly doubled relative to the same period the previous year.

Northcliffe last reported web statistics in September, when a report to the City included details of Northcliffe’s online growth over the past three years. At the time, it said its sites had 2.5 million users.

This month, Northcliffe’s Hull Daily Mail launched ThisisYourMail, an entirely user-generated “community conversation” website.

Hull Daily Mail assistant editor Alex Leys, who is leading the project, today revealed that this site achieved its six-month targets within a week “and is well on its way to topping the first year’s targets” of 12,000 monthly users.
