Flat Earth News author Nick Davies has accused the national press of misleading its readers about the Jersey care home story.
Writing in the Guardian, Davies says the “partial remains of a child” in a Jersey police press release became “the whole skull” in the News of the World; “parts of a child’s skeleton” in the Observer; while other titles claimed investigators “had found the entire body”.
“Armed with their dead child, Fleet Street’s warriors plunged into the fight for news,” Davies says. “Journalists were too deep into their own narrative.”
