The Newspaper Society said today it had written to Eric Pickles, the newly-appointed Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, asking for a meeting to discuss concerns about council newspapers and local government advertising practices.
Separately, the NS has also called on the BBC Trust to set new boundaries that will ‘immediately and truly reduce and restrict the BBC’s local role and local ambitions”.
