News of the World versus the Guardian – round-two at The Press Awards

By Dominic wireposts

My former Press Gazette colleague Jon Slattery has an amusing look back at some British Press Awards highlights on his blog today – and a look ahead at this year’s Press Awards event, which is being organised by the Society of Editors.

The Guardian may have won round-one of its scrap with the News of the World with its dogged pursuit of the phone-hacking story. But will the News of the World win round-two in terms of the journalism prizes?

The Guardian has had a vintage year  with Wikileaks and phone-hacking. But as Jon notes – the News of the World’s Pakistan cricket match-fixing story was super-scoop of epic proportions.
