New literary magazines launch to fill ‘excellent little gap in the market’

By Dominic wireposts

The Independent reports today that “a glut of new literary magazines is giving a home to freshman writing and established prose”.

It’s a piece which shows that just as blogging has brought down the cost of publishing online to almost zero, so advances in publishing technology mean it is also easy and cheap to bring out a new old-fashioned print on paper publication. The Independent notes that most of these new magazines have well designed websites as well.

Craig Taylor, editor of Five Dials, says: “As conventional magazines are dying out or chasing celebrity there’s an excellent little gap in the market.”

Other titles mentioned in the piece include: The Drawbridge. Pen Pusher, Popshot, Gutter Litro, Stingray and Ambit.
