The Mail on Sunday yesterday got stuck in to the BBC’s new arts editor Will Gompertz saying that he has “virtually no journalistic experience” and that he dropped out of school without going to university.
The MoS notes that the original advert for the job, which it says carried a £150k salary, stipulated that candidates should be university educated and be “a senior and influential journalist”.
The BBC told the MoS that 13 candidates were interviewed for the job. Gompertz was director of communications for the Tate art galleries.
Gompertz has written for The Guardian and The Times and was editor-in-chief of arts website culturecritic.com.
