Lottery grants £1m to Standard’s Dispossessed campaign

By admin

The London Evening Standard has claimed to be the first newspaper to ever win a lottery grant for one of its campaigns.

The Standard said £1m was to be granted from the Big Lottery Fund to its Dispossessed Fund that aims to help charities fight poverty in the capital.

The grant brings the total raised by the Dispossessed Fund to £6.2m, exceeding the original target of £1m.

The Dispossessed Fund was launched last July after a series of Standard articles exposed pockets of severe poverty in London. So far £1.1m has been given out in small grants.

The Big Lottery Fund grant will be used to fund hundreds of grants of up to £10,000 – which will be made in May and again in the autumn – in addition to the regular grants from the Dispossessed Fund’s endowment.
