London Press Club halves subscription fees to attract more members

By Press Gazette

The London Press Club has launched a new campaign to boost its membership numbers after the board unanimously agreed to halve the subscription fees.
The club, which has existed since 1882, will now charge £40 a year for journalist membership and £20 for students and retired journalists.
Existing members who have paid their fees at the previous rate will have their memberships extended to October 2015.
London Press Club chairman Doug Wills, who is managing editor of the Evening Standard, i and Independent , said: "After a fantastic year with events at venues from the Royal Courts of Justice to the Brazilian Embassy, I would like even more journalists to get involved with the Press Club in the coming year.
"At our recent AGM the board agreed unanimously to halve membership fees. Added to the fact that it is now possible to join online, it has never been easier or more affordable to join the London Press Club.”
Forthcoming events include a debate on paywalls at the British Library next Tuesday and a talk on the press post-Leveson on 14 April. More details available here.
