Local newspaper launches campaign to “get it right”

By Patrick

Simon Irwin, editorial director of the Kent Messenger Group, has appointed himself readers’ editor of his group’s weekly newspapers in a bid to stamp out mistakes.

Irwin is asking readers to contact him if a paper gets anything wrong as part of the Get it Right campaign. He stresses the accuracy drive is not needed because KM Group journalists are so bad,  he says “we just want to be a little bit better than everyone else.”

The Guardian was the first national newspaper to install a readers’ editor, Ian Mayes, (who is now busy writing the third volume of the paper’s official history) and the Independent on Sunday, Observer and Daily Mirror have now one.
