A primary school concert had to be cancelled after the Liverpool Echo confused the unknown American singer with Grammy Award winning country star Taylor Swift.
The mix-up came as the regional newspaper said Swift would be performing to children at St Margaret Mary’s Catholic Junior School, in Knowsley, when in fact the concert was part of a tour by Taylor Bright.
The school was forced to call off the performance because of security fears after the event was publicised in Saturday’s edition of the Echo.
Taylor Swift, 20, one of America’s biggest-selling artists, went on to win three Grammys on Sunday night in Los Angeles.
Taylor Bright, who is 16, is on her first visit to the UK to promote her debut single “Striped Socks” and was due to play to 480 pupils at St Margaret Mary’s as one of seven concerts in the UK.
A spokeswoman for Bright told the BBC an incorrect announcement about the concert was also made to 40,000 football fans during Liverpool’s game with Bolton Wanderers at Anfield over the weekend.
She said: “I have no idea why they thought Taylor Swift would be performing at St Margaret Mary’s when she was in America picking up her Grammys.
“It must have been a slip of the tongue.”
A spokesman for the newspaper said: “The Echo regrets the mistake in Saturday’s paper and has apologised to the school’s governors.
“We are making a donation to school funds as a gesture of goodwill.”
