Literary mags not giving space to new talent

By colinc

Literary magazines are squeezing out new writing talent in favour of big name authors, according to a report in The Times.

Giant of the genre, Granta, celebrated its 100th issue with a contributor’s list that read like “an A-list awards ceremony” while newer literary titles like The Drawbridge and Arete feature new writers but find it hard to resist publishing established talent.

Similarly, new writing based freesheets like Notes from the Underground, which publishes stories, poems and columns, publishes headline pieces by established authors like William Boyd and Frederick Forsyth.
