Ireland’s Sunday World blocks its crime writer from joining News of the World

By admin

Lawyers working for Paul Williams, crime editor of Ireland’s Sunday World, have accused the newspaper of ‘sour grapes’ after it blocked him from joining the Irish edition of News of the World.

The Sunday World secured a temporary injunction last Friday restraining Williams from joining the News of the World for a reported annual salary of €250,000, the Irish Times reported today.

The Sunday World claims Williams is obliged to serve out a three-month notice period.

However, John Gordon SC, for Williams, said in court in Ireland yesterday his client was employed with the Sunday World under a three-year contract which had expired and this case was a ‘sour grapes’action to frustrate Williams taking up his appointment.
