The quarterly magazine Index on Censorship published its 40th anniversary issue this week.
The issue includes contributions from figures such as Aung San Suu Kyi; an extract of Ariel Dorfman’s new play; and an interview with Flemming Rose, the journalist who commissioned the Danish Muhammed cartoons.
The magazine was first published in May 1972, and has published works by a wide range of distinguished authors including Alexander Solzhenitsyn, Milan Kundera, Nadine Gordimer, Salman Rushdie, Doris Lessing, Arthur Miller, Noam Chomsky, and Umberto Eco.
To celebrate its birthday the magazine is also making its online archives available for free from 26 March. The archive will only be available for 40 days.
