The Daily Star’s Saturday price war against its red-top rivals enters its third week tomorrow – and it shows no sign of going away yet.
On 9 January, the Star cut the price of its Saturday edition by 50 per cent – down from 60p to 30p.
It followed a 15p cut in the Star’s weekday price from 35p to 20p in November.
“The sinking Sun would set you back a whopping 60p, while the deadly-dull Mirror is an even more over-priced 65p,” the paper thundered in a full-page piece today.
“Make sure you get down to your newsagents first thing to grab your dazzling 30p Daily Star before we sell out.”
A spokeswoman for the paper told Press Gazette today that the price cut was part of “an ongoing campaign” but could not confirm when – or if – the promotion would end.
She said the Daily Star Sunday, which was “a totally different entity in itself”, was not going to change its price – currently 90p – “as far as I know”.
