Gun aimed at ITV Tonight journalist

By colinc

A journalist has had a gun pointed at her while filming a piece about safety after dark in Liverpool for ITV Tonight with Trevor McDonald.

Shelagh Fogarty, who is also a BBC 5Live presenter, was filming a piece in which she returned to the area she grew up in to see how safe she felt walking around after dark.

Fogarty’s crew were threatened by teenagers with glass and stones in the Norris Green area of the city. In a second incident in the Croxeth area, a car with blacked out windows drew up beside Fogarty and a gun was pointed at her.

However, the TV crew have refused to give statements to the police until the programme airs tonight and did not call the police when the alleged incident took place, according to the Liverpool Daily Post.

The local newspaper quotes city councillors who criticised the TV crew for “revving” the teenagers up and portraying the area negatively.
