The Guardian is about to appoint a New York-based US editor as part of an expansion to its operations on the far side of the Atlantic.
Editor-in-chief Alan Rusbridger told Yahoo! News’s The Cutline the US expansion would be “significantly larger than anything we’ve done in the states before.”
The Guardian currently has around ten staff in its US operation – based in both New York and Washington.
Steve Howe, a former Wall Street Journal and Financial Times executive, was last week appointed by Guardian News & Media as its new chief revenue officer in the US to help breathe new life into its stateside operations.
The move comes after the Guardian started to phase out its US site in 2009, disposing of most of its American staff and folding coverage back into its main website.

“We’re not in a position to say more than that at the moment,” Rusbridger told Yahoo! But he offered that “the United States is going to be a more important part of what we do in the future.”
