Fashion website Buro 24/7 hires ex-Marie Claire digital director as its new editor-in-chief

By James Walker

Emerging fashion and lifestyle website Buro 24/7 has appointed former Marie Claire digital editorial director Kate Stephens as its new editor-in-chief.

Stephens (pictured) will also take on the role of global editorial director at the luxury title, which was founded in Russia in 2011 and is set to launch an English-language website based out of Soho, London, this year.

Stephens was formerly fashion editor at the Yorkshire Post newspaper, going on to become group editorial director for Time Inc UK (now TI Media) and most recently running her own digital editorial consultancy firm.

She said of her new role: “My aim is to disrupt an increasingly formulaic media landscape with a content proposition that is as innovative as it is impactful… where creativity is fuelled by data, rather than being supplemented by it, and where every pixel produced is delivered with an unwavering commitment to quality, beauty and style.”

Sophie Beresiner, Elle UK’s beauty director for almost seven years, will support Stephens as the title’s beauty and style director.

Buro 247.com, part of Buro Global, will target wealthy millennials and be manned by 25 staff across editorial, marketing and commercial departments, the group has previously told Press Gazette.

The brand already has a web presence in eight markets, including Russia, Singapore and Mexico.

Buro Global chief executive Nick Smith said: “Kate has what I think is a unique expertise within our category to build highly engaged and loyal audiences through a focus on triggering experience and emotion via premium digital content – the key to unlocking the hearts and minds of affluent millennials.”

Smith told Press Gazette last year that Buro 24/7 would be the “new face of luxury media”.

The website will not be behind a paywall, but rely on advertising, selling services to luxury brands and branded restaurants, cafes and beauty salons.

Buro Global also owns Buro Code, a content and creative agency offering services to prestige and luxury brands.
