Entries open for Foreign Press Association young journalist award

The Foreign Press Association is now accepting entries for the Young Journalist from the Developing World prize.

Sponsored by media development charity the Thomson Foundation, the award is open to journalists under the age of 30 from countries with a GDP per capita of less than $20k.

Nigel Baker, chief executive of the Thomson Foundation, said: “We are delighted to be associated with the new prize, it’s certainly a positive thing for aspiring journalists from deprived backgrounds.

“It’s going to give journalistic talent from developing countries the perfect opportunity to showcase their abilities, getting their work recognised by the best in the business. We’re immensely proud to be on board”.

Three shortlisted finalists will be flown to London for the FPA awards on 19 November.

The FPA has also announced one new category, the Science Story of the Year, will be included in the ceremony.

Each entrant must submit three samples of their journalistic work – in print, audio, video or multimedia formats – that has been published in the last 12 months. The deadline for submissions is 18 September.
