Elton John ends action against The Guardian

By owenamos

Elton John’s legal action against The Guardian’s spoof diary of his life has ended.

John claimed Marina Hyde‘s ‘A peek at the diary of” feature was ‘gratuitously offensive, nasty and snide“.

In December, the high court struck out John’s claim for libel, agreeing the piece did not carry the factual meanings the singer had claimed.

His law firm Carter-Ruck took the case to the court of appeal, but last week that court rejected their right for appeal.

Today, the seven-day period to appeal that decision ended.

John had claimed the article suggested his commitment to the Elton John Aids Foundation was insincere, and that his White Tie and Tiara Ball was used to meet celebrities rather than raise money.
