Egyptian daily doctors pic to put leader centre stage at Middle East peace talks

By Alexandra Zeevalkink

Al-Ahram, Egypt’s state-run newspaper, has come under attack for altering a photo to place president Hosni Mubarak at the front of a group of world leaders at Middle East peace talks instead of US president Barack Obama.

The altered photograph ran last Tuesday alongside a feature called The Way to Sharm el-Sheikh, the BBC and others report.

Its competitor, independent daily newspaper al-Masry al-Youm, said in a statement that the state-run daily had performed ‘surgery on the photo’.

The BBC has the before and after images here – with president Mubarak apparently moved from the far left of the group to the front, replacing Obama.
