‘Ed Stone’ under 24-hour media surveillance, Labour MP reveals as he calls for public destruction

A Labour MP has reported that the hiding place of the infamous Ed Stone – a 2.6 metre structure setting out the party’s 2015 election pledges – is currently under 24-hour surveillance by the media.

Writing in The Mail on Sunday yesterday, John Woodcock challenged his party to release the stone from its “captivity” – a “South London warehouse… under lock and key” – and be "smashed to bits in public”.

Woodcock, who is part of Liz Kendall's Labour leadership campaign, suggested this should be done in order to “move on from its election nightmare”.

But he added: “We should also spare a thought for the ongoing costs to the media.

"Ever determined to focus on the issues that matter to their readers and the country, I hear they are involved in 24-hour surveillance of the warehouse to thwart any dastardly attempt by Labour officials to smuggle the stone out in the dead of night and dispose of it. We must embrace our symbol of failure so we can move on from it.”
