The News of the World may be under a lot of pressure again over the 2006 phone-hacking scandal at the paper – but it is having a great run story wise.
On week two of its Pakistan cricket match-fixing revelations, it yesterday published an exclusive interview with Pakistan batsman Yasir Hameed who told the paper that corrupt teammates were fixing “almost every match”.
Three Pakistan players have been suspended and questioned by police after News of the World revelations last week about players apparently bowling no-balls to order as part of a betting scam.
The NoW also had big story at the weekend (apparently in unison with the Sunday Mirror) detailing Wayne Rooney’s extra-marital activities with a prostitute. That followed a similar tale last month when the NoW revealed England player Peter Crouch had gone with a prostitute on a stag weekend.
In May, the NoW pulled of a classic undercover sting when it revealed that the Duchess of York had offered to sell access to her former husband Prince Andrew for £500,000.
