China launches global English-language news channel

China’s state-run Xinhua news agency yesterday launched a global English-language television channel as the latest tool for the ruling Communist Party to spread influence abroad.

China Xinhua News Network Corp started broadcast of the CNC World service, which will carry 70 per cent international news and 30 per cent news about China.

“The English service will provide international and China news with a Chinese perspective to global audiences,” the Independent reported CNC president Wu Jincai saying.
