Belfast Telegraph scoops the world with Cameron G8 exclusive

By Gavriel Hollander

The Belfast Telegraph scooped the world’s media this week by securing an exclusive interview with Prime Minister David Cameron at the G8 summit in Fermanagh.

The paper has had a three-man team working round the clock to cover the Lough Erne summit, at which world leaders held talks on issues such as the ongoing conflict in Syria and how to tackle international tax evasion.

And it splashed on Monday with an exclusive Cameron interview, secured by reporter Adrian Rutherford, in which the Prime Minister expressed his frustration at the pace at which Northern Ireland was moving towards long-term political stability.

The Belfast Telegraph dedicated the first 13 pages of the news section on Monday to the conference. It also produced a 64-page supplement which was handed to all delegates as well as journalists from around the world.

According to the paper, Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe praised the "Northern Ireland is Gr8" supplement.

Editor Mike Gilson said: ”I very proud of our small team who have produced sparkling newspapers and up-to-the-minute websites full of brilliant words which have summed up what a show of faith this G8 summit is for Northern Ireland and its future.”
