The BBC has announced a partnership with the British Film Institute to work on a major digital audio, film and TV archive delivered via broadband.
The pair have signed a memorandum of understanding that the BBC said would “act as a catalyst for making archive content accessible to all UK audiences”.
Last year, BBC2 controller Roly Keating moved to the new role of director of archive content, responsible for doing more with the BBC’s rich back-catalogue of programming.
“The archives of the BBC and the BFI are a great national resource, with huge potential public value,” he said today.
“Our two organisations have a shared belief in the value of making the UK’s audio-visual heritage accessible to the widest possible audience.
“This agreement to work together more closely is a first and vital step in realising that vision.”
