BBC Scotland plans eight compulsory redundancies

By colinc

BBC Scotland is planning eight compulsory redundancies under its Value for Money cuts announced in 2004, reports Broadcast magazine.

A total of 12 assistant producers jobs were due to be axed but only five staff came forward for voluntary redundancy, one of whom’s application was rejected by management.

But the move to compulsory redundancies has been deferred after a Monday meeting with the NUJ, in which it was agreed to wait until after current national negotiations over complusory redundancies are complete.

The unions – NUJ, Bectu and Unite – are in talks over a further round of cuts under the BBC’s Creative Future plan announced last year. The deadline for a BBC strike ballot closes on 23 January.
