Applications for the Richard Beeston Bursaries are open.
Offered in association with The Times, two bursaries of £6,000 are available.
One is for an aspiring British or UK-based foreign correspondent to spend six weeks abroad working on a story and the other for a journalist who has experience working in Lebanon, Israel or the Palestinian Territories and will see them spend six weeks on The Times foreign desk.
Richard Beeston, who died aged 50 in 2013, was a respected foreign correspondent who ended his career as foreign editor of The Times.

When setting up the bursary in 2014 The Times said they aimed to reflect Beeston’s belief that ‘’good journalists are not forged in the classroom or the newsroom, but in the field.’’
After his death from prostate cancer John Witherow called him ‘‘one of the great foreign editors of The Times.’’
The names of the winners of the Richard Beeston Bursaries will be announced at the Frontline Awards on Thursday 22 October.
