American TV news networks leave Iraq for Afghanistan

Three American rolling news networks have quietly stopped sending full-time correspondents to Iraq as news groups turn more resources to Afghanistan.

According to the International Herald Tribune, CBS, NBC and ABC have joined a string of magazines and newspapers in virtually pulling out of the country – keeping just a skeleton bureau in Baghdad staffed by correspondents on rotation.

The networks said they would continue to cover the war and said the staff adjustments “reflected the evolution of the conflict”.
