Alan Geere returns after Ugandan adventure as head of news journalism at Southampton Solent University

Veteran journalist Alan Geere has been appointed head of news Journalism at Southampton Solent university.

Geere has more than 40 years experience as a journalist and was editorial director of Northcliffe Newspapers’ South East division.

He has also served on the board of the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ).

In addition he has consulted in 200 newsrooms worldwide and recently was head of Media, Communications and Journalism at Victoria University, Kampala, Uganda.

Commenting on his appointment Geere said: “I'm delighted to have the opportunity to bring my experience and expertise to Southampton Solent. There has never been a more exciting time to start in journalism and I hope I can help the committed and talented staff here, encourage a new generation to gain the skills and confidence to follow this exciting career."
