Afghan writer joins campaign to spare journalist’s life

By colinc

Khaled Hosseini, the  writer of the bestselling novel The Kite Runner, has joined calls for the release of Agfhan journalism student Sayed Parwez Kaambakhsh, who has been sentenced to death for distributing an allegedly blasphemous article.

Last week, The Independent launched a campaign to save his life.

Writing in the Wall Street Journal, Hosseini called on Afghan president Karzai Hamid “to do whatever is within his powers to spare Mr. Kaambakhsh”. His execution, said Hosseini, would raise serious questions about the viability of democracy in Afghanisatan.
