A new weekly nationwide betting newspaper is to launch on the first day of the new football season – Saturday, 18 August.
The Bet will be a full-colout 56-page tabloid priced at £1 and targeting the ‘recreational multi-sport gambler”.
It will be football-led but cover all televised sport.
Former Sun journalist Steve Mullen is heading up a ten-strong Manchester-based editorial team.
Managing director of The Bet Publishing Mark Harris said: ‘We believe there is a very perceptible gap in the market for a specialist multi-sports betting title.”
The bet is launching with a print-run of 95,000 which it hopes will settle down to at least 25,000 sales a week in the UK and Republic of Ireland.
