New NCE results show increased pass rate

Just over half the trainees taking the National Certificate Examination this spring passed.

A total of 265 candidates sat the exam in April at 16 centres plus those sitting the certificate in office. The National Certificate was awarded to 136 candidates, a pass rate of 51 per cent. This compares with a pass rate of 43 per cent in April last year.

ESSO AWARD (speech, £250): Alex Day, Kidderminster Shuttle & Times.

TED BOTTOMLEY MEMORIAL AWARD (newspaper practice, £250): Emma Bamford, Buckingham & Winslow Advertiser Group.
