Two more women’s lifestyle titles, Bare and PS Magazine, closed this week, bringing the total number of editorial jobs lost in magazines over the past five weeks to more than 80.
Owner of Bare, John Brown Publishing, and Dennis Publishing, which launched PS, both blamed increased competition on the news-stand and the covermounts war.
Dennis pulled the plug on PS before the July issue went to press after it failed to find a buyer. Around eight full-time staff face redundancy and three freelances will be axed.
PS editor Rachel Shattock, a former deputy editor of Cosmopolitan, said staff were "heartbroken". "If anyone is entering a career in journalism they should go in with their eyes open and expect it to be changeable," she said.
Art director Lisa Duke is believed to have a new job and editorial assistant Victoria Johns has joined Men’s Fitness, but most staff are looking for work.
Bare editor Ilse Crawford was lured over from New York for the launch.
