Film-maker Roman Polanski, who is under house arrest while waiting to see if Swiss authorities will extradite him to the United States over a 1977 child sex charge is reported to be suing two French magazines and a newspaper for invading his privacy by using pictures of him under house arrest.
Polanski is currently under house arrest at his chalet in the Alpine resort of Gstaad.
He was detained in Zurich in September following an extradition request by authorities in the United States, and held in prison until being released on December 4 to go into house arrest.
It was reported this week that he was taking legal action against French magazines VSD and Voici, and the newspaper Le Journal du Dimanche claiming that they published photographs of him and his family which had been taken since he was freed on bail.
Reports quoted the Agence France Presse news agency as saying that Polanski and his actress wife, Emmanuelle Seigner, were demanding damages of £680,750 for publication of the pictures and the accompanying articles.
The case was expected to go to court in Paris in January.
Polanski recently lost an attempt to have the child sex case dismissed by a US court. He had pleaded guilty to having sex with a 13-year-old girl but fled the US and went to France before being sentenced.
