Actors Sid Owen and Darren Day to sue News International

Ex-Eastenders star Sid Owen and actor Darren Day are among two of the latest celebrities to sue over phone-hacking at the News of the World.

Owen, 40, played Ricky Butcher in the BBC soap opera until retiring earlier this year, and is due to be appear as a contestant in this year’s Strictly Come Dancing.

Day, who has starred in numerous West End musicals as well as television shows, is well known for the colourful private life he enjoyed before settling down with his wife, daughter and stepson.

They are just two of the latest round of public figures who claim they are victims of hacking.

Others who have launched lawsuits are David Brooks, Gary Hersham, and Labour party official Hilary Perrin.

The High Court deadline for the lodging of claims against News Group Newspapers was 14 September and a case management conference, expected to last three days, will start on 25 September.

So far 124 people have been accepted into the compensation scheme run by News International, News Group’s parent company.
