Veteran agony aunt Virginia Ironside has joined Candis magazine.
Ironside began her journalistic career as a rock correspondent for the Daily Mail in the Sixties. For the past 30 years she has been an agony aunt with Woman magazine and a number of national newspapers. She wrote for the Sunday Mirror from 1983 to 1988, when her column was dropped for Marje Proops, and returned in 1998 for four years before being axed to make way for more sport. At the time she said: “At least I wasn’t having to make way for an older woman.” She has also written for the Daily Mail and will continue to write her Tuesday Dilemmas column in The Independent.
She joins contributors Polly Toynbee and Laurie Graham, who also write for Candis. Her first column for the magazine will appear in the June edition.
Candis editor Jenny Campbell said: “Virginia is an immensely experienced and talented journalist who also brings a lot of personal wisdom and experience to the column. She’s a natural fit for Candis.”
