Hull’s daily capitalises on rugby victory

By Press Gazette

By Emma Farge

The Hull Daily Mail upped its August bank holiday sales by 10,000
when it dedicated its Monday paper to Hull FC’s rugby victory over
Leeds.

The Mail filled 31 pages with details of the 25-24 Challenge Cup win
at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium and used a wraparound cover picturing
the team.

In Tuesday’s edition a further 28 pages, including a 16-page picture special, were devoted to the event.

Editor
John Meehan said: “Hull is one of the biggest clubs in rugby league,
but this was their first silverware in 20 years. We felt it was
important to reflect not just the triumph, but how it was achieved and
what it meant for the club’s fans and the city of Hull.”
