By Press Gazette

IPC Media has appointed Helen Russell as the new digital and online editor of Marie Claire magazine.

Russell, who previously worked for the BBC, Bauer and the National Magazine Company, has joined IPC from BSkyB to oversee the digital versions of its monthly women’s glossy.

Her appointment coincides with the launch of the title’s first iPhone app, Marie Claire Beauty Genius, which has been launched with a download price of £1.19 – an iPad version is expected in the coming weeks.

The app launch comes through collaboration with digital agency Outside Line and features exclusive bite-sized how-to videos.

According to IPC’s internal (therefore unofficial) traffic data, marieclaire.co.uk attracted 1.1m users – up 91 per cent year on year – and 17m page impressions last month.

The print issue of the band sold an average of 258,925 copies each month during the first half of the year, according to the most recent figures from the Audit Bureau of Circulations.
