By Dominic Ponsford

Guardian.co.uk set a new record for UK national newspaper web traffic in November with 35.8 million global unique users.

Looking at the UK along it attracted 12.9 million unique users over the course of the month.

Guardian director of digital content Emily Bell said: “Our World News and Environment sections of the site drove the most traffic to guardian.co.uk in November, with several stories on climate change – in particular the story about the leaked emails from the University of East Anglia’s Climate Research Unit – resonating with audiences around the globe.”

Mail Online was in second place in November, attracting 31.2 million unique users, closely followed by Telegraph.co.uk on 30.8 million.

Times Online was in fourth place with 20.9 million global unique users just ahead of The Sun on 20.2 million.

Mirror Group was in fifth place on 10.6 million unique users followed by The Independent with 8.9 million users.

These are the only national newspapers which opt to have their website figures audited on a monthly basis by ABC.
