Future’s Techradar.com expands into US

By Press Gazette

Future's Techradar.com is to launch in the United States in the spring where it will recruit four new editorial staff, the company announced yesterday.

Techradar.com claims to be the UK's number one technology site and had an average of 10.9m global unique users last month, according to Future, including around 1.6m in the US.

The US team will be based in San Francisco.

Techradar publisher Nick Merritt said: 'TechRadar has been the leading technology reviews site in the UK for the past several years, and bringing it fully to the US has always been our ambition.

'It's great to finally be in a position to do it. We'll be building on our strengths with the most authoritative reviews of US cell phones, tablets, hardware and software, and provide up-to-the-minute news, and valuable content catered specifically for the US tech-buying audience."

In July Future revealed that US earnings had fallen £2m as a result of poor retail returns and dwindling print ad revenues – and that it would 'accelerate transition'into becoming a 'primarily digital business'in the US.

Future's latest financial figures released in 2010 showed a pre-tax loss of £18m in the last financial year largely caused by a poor performance in its US division, where revenue was down 16 per cent to £38.8m.
