Freelance Miles Goslett's Kids Company investigation nominated by London Press Club for scoop prize

Freelance Miles Goslett is shortlisted for his Kids Company expose in the London Press Club Awards.

The nomination is belated recognition for Goslett for his work on the story.

His article was the first to air concerns about the way the charity is run and was published by The Spectator in February 2015.

Newsnight and Buzzfeed jointly won scoop of the year at RTS Awards for their revelations about the Kids Company which aired some months later. Newsnight/Buzzfeed also achieved a British Journalism Awards nomination in the investigation of the year category.

A year ago, Miles Goslett blew the whistle on Kids Company with allegations of financial mismanagement at the heart of the charity. His exposé, published in The Spectator, was followed by all major news organisations and in August 2015 Kids Company closed.

In a World Exclusive, the Daily Mirror showed dramatic CCTV footage revealing for the first time the identity of the Hatton Garden jewel thieves. Under the headline, Diamond Geezers – Gem Raiders Caught on Camera, the story revealed how the ‘real life Reservoir Dogs gang’ escaped with their multi-million pound haul in wheelie bins.

In July, The Sun’s scoop ‘Lord Coke – Top Peer’s drugs binges’ revealed how the deputy Speaker of the Lords, Baron John Sewel, had been caught on camera snorting cocaine with prostitutes. The politician responsible for upholding standards in the House of Lords, resigned later the same month.

Cheating on a major scale by athletes at the Olympics and numerous world championships was revealed by The Sunday Times Insight team, after the biggest leak of blood test data in sporting history. Insight revealed that doping was prevalent among medal winners – many of them household names.

The awards winners will be announced at a lunch on 5 April at the Corinthia Hotel in Whitehall.
