Former Herald editor Jonathan Russell has been made publishing director of Trinity Mirror’s Media Scotland stable of local titles.
His appointment follows group editor Alan Woodison taking early retirement after 34 years with the company.
Russell has been working as a consultant with Media Scotland on the launch of free weeklies Glasgow Now and Edinburgh Now (sister titles for Aberdeen Now).
Rusell will oversee the Now titles in his new role as well as 17 other weeklies and the Paisley Daily Express, which grew sales by 1.3 per cent year on year to 7,232 a day in the second half of 2012.
Media Scotland editor-in-chief Allan Rennie said: “We would all like to wish Alan a happy retirement and welcome Jonathan on board. "
Trinity Mirror said that Russell will be working closely with commercial manager Helena Morrow on “opportunities to grow the business”.
