Former chief prosecutor behind journalist trials to debate press freedom with Sun’s Trevor Kavanagh

By Dominic Ponsford

The former director of public prosecutions who presided over the prosecution of dozens of journalists is joining a panel discussion being held in London next month asking the question: Do we have a free press?

Keir Starmer MP will be joined by Trevor Kavanagh of The Sun (who has been a fierce critic of the Crown Prosecution Service), chief executive of Index on Censorshop Jodie Ginsberg, Yougov president Peter Kellner and BBC Media Show host Steve Hewlett.

Organised by the London Press Club to mark 800 years of the Magna Carta, the debate is being held at Grange Hotel, St Paul’s (10 Godliman Street) on 13 July from 6.30pm.
