Sarah
Smith, the daughter of the late Labour Party leader John Smith, will be
the face of More4 News when it launches on 10 October, it was announced
at the festival.
More4 News will air each night at 8pm on the new
free-to-air digital channel from Channel 4. The half-hour programme
will combine news with a forum for perspectives and opinions.
Channel 4 News editor Jim Gray said: “Challenges don’t come much more enticing than a new programme on a new channel.
I’m
delighted that Sarah will be fronting this important new venture for
Channel 4. She’s a great television journalist with all the skills and
attributes to capture the spirit and vitality of the new programme and
make it a terrific watch”
Smith has worked for Channel 4 News since 1998.
The
deputy editor of the BBC’s Six O’Clock News, Will Thorne, will be
joining the Channel 4 News team at ITN to lead the More4 News team.
Thorne
was previously the senior assistant editor at Newsnight, where he had
also been an output editor and a field producer/film-maker.
